Spring CSA - 2009

WHAT IS CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, brings consumers and farmers together in a relationship of mutual support. Each member makes a commitment to support the farm throughout the season. In return, members receive a weekly box of fresh produce from mid March to late April. In effect, the farmer and the shareholder literally share the risks and the bounty of the garden. CSA promotes dialog between farmers and consumers, and encourages a sense of community. Buyers get to see where their food comes from and have a vested interest in the land and the growers. The partnership allows the farmer to provide a wide variety of produce of the highest quality.

At Rose Creek Farms CSA, members will pay in advance of the season for a 6 week share of the farm's harvest, from mid March through late April. Shares contain a variety of seasonal foods, picked that morning. A share provides most of the salad and vegetable needs for a couple or a small family for a week.

A CSA share from Rose Creek Farms is more than good food. CSA members establish a connection with the food they eat, the land where it is grown, and the people who produce it. By doing so, they make a tangible commitment to local, sustainable, environmentally-sound agriculture, then literally reap the benefits.

Each box comes with a newsletter detailing what's inside and how to cook, bake, serve and store the produce. You're never left hanging as to how to use basil or eggplant; you'll learn new variations on salad dressings and freezing and great tips on drying and storing for later use (from 5 days later to February meals!). We are looking into more options to include other than vegetables in your share. Local eggs, meat, fruit and honey.

What's in a share?

You will receive a splendid variety of produce, delivered weekly to Denton and Decatur, Texas. You will sample many varieties of CNG vegetables and herbs. Each week's delivery yields its own unique harvest. Plan on plenty of those favorite staple vegetables, plus a healthy portion of the CNG heirlooms not found in the stores. Quantity and variety progress with the season.

For more information on the program, contact our farmer Ronny Johnson at (940) 427-2609, or mail your
