Organic Gardening, Homesteading and Traditional Nutrient Dense Whole Food Education Classes

Rose Creek Farms offers gardening classes that provides the basic skills of gardening and laying the foundation for growing organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs and lawns in the North Texas climate. These classes are excellent for folks new to gardening, new to growing vegetables or new to organic practices in the garden. You may sign up for any individual class, there is no particular order they have to be taken. 

Check or money order only, no cash please. Please fill out the class registration form "Click here for registration form". Send in form with fee to the address listed. 

Classes are held at Rose Creek Farms, a Certified Naturally Grown Produce and Herb farm. Our address is 418 County Road 2788, Sunset, Texas. Please check out the map provided on the Map and Directions page on this web site, GPS map is incorrect. Our phone number is 940-427-2609.  Please wear appropriate shoes as we will be touring the farm. Lunch is provided. May have a guest speaker attend the class.

Host your own backyard gardening, compost  or homesteading class. The class is free to you for hosting. Instructor is Pamela Johnson/Rose Creek Farms. Class requires a minimum of 5 people plus host for class to make. Can be held at your home, work, church or as a neighborhood event. Class is $25.00 per person. Children's Events

  • Beneficial Insect Day - Ladybug Mania: April 18th, 2012 10:00am - 2:00pm 3rd and 4th graders. April 20th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. 5th and 6th graders. Day's events will include farm tour of gardens and livestock. Bring sack lunch. After lunch we will release over 35,000 lady bugs and Green Lace Wing beneficial predators into the garden. Hayride and fun activities included. Learn why we use beneficial insects and nematodes in organic farming. Day's event costs $7.00 per child, please bring sack lunch. To register click here.

Gardening

  • Backyard Gardening Class: Growing a Spring Garden Jan. 28th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. Class will concentrate on growing cooler season vegetables. Class covers the basics of organic soil amendments, composting, vermiculture, organic fertilizers and organic insect and disease control and much more. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Lunch provided.

  • Composting Class: Feb. 11th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. Class covers the art of composting. Learn to use yard trimmings, leaves, food scraps to make your compost. Learn how to make hot and cold compost piles. Learn the art of how to make compost tea to boost the nutrients available in the soil through increasing the microbial life in your garden soil. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Lunch provided.

Class covers the basics of organic soil amendments, composting, vermiculture, organic fertilizers and organic insect and disease control and much more. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Lunch provided.

Homesteading

  • The basics of canning:: April 28th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. Come and learn the basics of canning. Learn how to preserve your garden's harvest. During the class you will be going through the step by step process of canning meat, vegetables and fruit using both a pressure cooker and the "hot bath" method of canning. We will be canning veggies that are seasonally available. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Lunch provided.

  • Basics of Fermentation: May 19th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. Come and learn the basics of fermentation. Learn how to make old fashioned pickled veggies to sourdough bread starters for bread, rolls and pancakes. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Lunch provided.

WAPF - Traditional Nutrient Dense Whole Foods Educational Classes  

  • Probiotics - The real connection: Feb 25th, 2012 10:00am-2:00pm. Friendly bacteria make up approximately 70% of our immune system. The most powerful part of the immune system takes place among the body's probiotics. The human body can house more than 32 billion beneficial and harmful bacteria and fungi at one time. Join us in learning how to protect our immune system using traditional nutrient dense foods and drinks such as, yogurt, kefir, kombucha and fermented veggies. This is an informational class and not a cooking class. However we do cover basic methods of preparation. Class cost $25.00 per person. Couples $30.00. Which includes take home study materials. Lunch provided.
